I was wondering should I or Catholics fast on Holy Days of Obligation? Thanks, God Bless.

fasting is in general a practice for penitential days and seasons, not for feasts and solemnities and Sundays

Quite the opposite–you should celebrate and feast on solemnities! 🙂 (in fact, if a Solemnity falls on a Friday, the usual Firday obligation to do penance does not apply).

However, it is often a good idea to fast in preparation for a solemnity–perhaps fast the Saturday before (since every Sunday is also a Solemnity)?🙂

On the vigil (the day before) of the Immaculate Conception you should fast and abstain, not on the feastday itself. Since that day this year is a Sunday there is no vigil.

There is no such requirement.

No, it’s not a precept by the Church anymore, but if you want to you can do it. Just because something is not required by the law, under pain of mortal sin, does not mean that it’s harmful or bad to do today voluntarily…😉

I agree but you worded it in a way making it appear like a requirement.
You said “you should fast and abstain.” That could confuse people, especially those new to the faith.

Fasting and abstinence can be done anytime voluntarily.

Apart from one hour before receiving Communion, fasting is only required on two days: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Abstaining is only required on Fridays during Lent.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it, though 🙂

However, this year you shouldn’t fast on the day before the Immaculate Conception since Sundays are feast, too! You could fast on Saturday though (but that’s St. Nicholas’ day which most people celebrate joyfully)

Obviously nobody reads what I say. I said you can voluntarily fast or abstain anytime you want.
My point is that people should be clear on what is required and what is voluntary.
