(CNN) - Protests are heating up over Arizona’s tough new immigration law. The measure requires police to question anyone they believe might be an illegal immigrant. Opponents say Hispanics will be unfairly targeted.
A Democratic congressman from Arizona is urging the president not to acknowledge the law and civil rights leaders say they’ll march in the street and invite arrest by refusing to comply. Thousands of people staged a peaceful protest outside the state capitol in Phoenix yesterday and an immigrant soldier about to ship to the war zone was among them. Our Thelma Gutierrez has his story.

Check out the video as well!

Any thoughts?

Enlisting in the military is one of the fastest ways to become a U.S. citizen.

I feel sorry for the boy, being lied to about how illegal immigrants are the same thing as citizens. They arn’t

I love this civil rights crud. The civil rights movement was legal because the people protesting were legal (most of them) natural born American citizens. An illegal immigrant is not a member of America, to the taxes, healthcare, and almost anything else they are not held to the same standard as citizens. Why should they be given rights for breaking a law?🤷
As horrible as this seems, we have laws. Without those laws we are nothing. Those laws need to be followed. Someone who breaks a good law (immigration) has no right to try to change that law.

Before you say I am racist, please note that I am partially Hispanic. However, my great great grandparents waited in line to become legal, they would be turning in their graves if they could see this now.

just checking - had written a great reply to the forum on Arizona actions - all very positive toward the State and when I previewed it for posting - poof it was gone
leaving a message that said I was not logged in, etc. let’s see if this will go.

Yep, it did. Well, now I am tired of composing so will see ya latah!

It’s too bad there apparently as so many law breakers (ILLEGALS) in Arizona and other border states.

If the Federal Government had done their job of protecting our borders - according to the US Constitution, there would not be serious issues including drug running and crime by illegals.

Arizona has to protect their citizens including their legal immigrants.

People seem to forget that an Arizona citizen was killed not to long ago by illegals. Let’s hear more about him and his family in the news.

Serving in the military is one way to get automatic citizenship.

I would like to hear your view on this law. As for everyone else, thank you for your views. Anyone else? What do you people think when they say people will use this law for racial profiling?

The Federal Law requires all legal immigrants working in this Country to carry a ‘green card’ on their person at all times.

If one of us breaks the law for a traffic violation, we must show our driver’s license and proof of insurance. They merely have to show their ‘green card’ if caught in a suspicious or law breaking activity.

Racial profiling for the most part is an Obama and media scare tactic - Since legal immigrants will have the appropriate papers.

No, I don’t think the Arizonia law will cause racial profiling. Legal immigrants will merely show the paper work they are required to carry per Federal Law.

Greetings all,

The great Archbishop Dolan of New York wrote this on his blog yesterday. What are some of your thoughts?

How about what the USCCB had to say?

Like Redratfish, my mother came to this country legally when she left Cuba in the 60’s. I have no problem with immigration. We are a country of immigrants! I feel that the immigrants who are here, even those here illegally, should be treated with respect because they are humans like us, made in the image and likeness of God. At the same time, we need reform so that immigrants can come to this great country of ours in a lawful manner and we need to keep our boarders safe.

My opinion 🤷 and I’m glad that I do not have to call the shots.

St. George, pray for us!

God bless,

Hello there!

Like you, my family came to the United States LEGALLY in the late 1970’s. I do agree that we are a country of immigrants and we should completely respect those that come here even if they are here illegally. We are all God’s children and just like Jesus said to love one another.

I also know that there has to be some kind of immigration reform but I don’t think the law in Arizona will do much to solve the problem. All of this is one complicated situation.

Any thoughts?

Thank you everyone once again for your different views on this.

Amen to that! I was also an immigrant and now a US Citizen. I have petitioned my brothers and sisters so they can migrate here in the United States. I paid the fees, completed all the documents, submitted all the documents and we have been waiting for 15 years for them to get a visa. Most people follow the rules and the laws. If you are legal, then there is nothing to hide if the authorities stop you. If you are illegal, then you should be deported back to where you belong, and file the necessary documents if you want to live here in the US.

I see the USCCB is at it again. I support Arizona to uphold the federal laws that are already on the books. Perhaps we indeed need a streamlined guest worker program. What we don’t need is 12 million more amnestied democratic voters, which is where this is headed.

I have an extended family of second+ generation Mexican Americans and they all support Arizona too. They carry their license with them and have no problem being asked if they are a US citizen if they do something that causes the police to ask questions.

Hello all,

I’m not sure if this is that much of a democrat vs. republican issue. Over the last couple of days there have been several high ranking republicans that are against the immigration law passed in Arizona. The are former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and former Florida Speaker and Senate candidate Marco Rubio for example. It could be that these two men, from a state that has a large number of individuals from hispanic backgrounds, are looking for votes (so I guess everything is politics, lol).

What I am thinking about Arizona, needing a law requiring individuals in their State to show identification to duly appointed authority, is pretty straight forward - seems like a GOOD idea to me. Everyone knows the illegal border crossing is out of control and its not hard to see that the Federal Government has not managed this crisis. The State of Arizona has authority to protect its citizenry and property. The law enforcement personnel are professional and are not going to initiate insults or argument, and self respecting ordinary citizens will show their ID/driver’s license. All our men and women serving in our armed forces carry an ID card and show it whenever required without any hassle. Its expected and therefore it is done. Once the border is secured, requesting a show of ID will lessen. As for racial profiling - thats baloney. The majority of folks are varying shades of skin color and those without much tone use suntan lotion or tanning booths. Its BEHAVIOR profiling that is most necessary. God Bless the USA and all its many different people that have become AMERICANS! Right?!

You are, unfortunately right. What we don’t need is 12 million undocumented voters, voting for whomever gives them the most goodies.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods.

Get legal and then please join our society in throwing out the same top down class envy you have in Mexico.
