IMO… we need to build the wall…

PHOENIX (Reuters) - As many as 15,000 immigrants and supporters marched through Phoenix on Friday in the latest of a series of protests in major U.S. cities that seek to stop legislation seen as punitive to undocumented workers.
Los Angeles students also walked out of at least 20 county schools on Friday, protesting proposed extension of a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border, said a Los Angeles Unified School District spokesperson.

HS students walking out as a protest. SHA RIGHT! 😉

Don’t see why they need to put up walls on the US-Mexican borders. 9-11 wasn’t a bunch of Mexicans in planes attacking the WTC, Pentagon.

Besides that immigrants have contributed to this country and are part of this Country’s success. Our founding fathers in the US were immigrants themselves (or immigrant fathers). Look at what Italians have contributed to the US.

As for those who feel immigrants come to this country and take away jobs. Wake up! They don’t take away jobs. They do the jobs that 90% of Americans are too full of pride to do themselves.

Really? Those were jobs which built America and jobs which Americans have done. Maybe it’s because there are some jobs Americans “need not apply”? If Americans had a fair chance at those jobs, and the wages were actually allowed to go up and were allowed to compete with normal American wages, you bet Americans would apply. I cannot believe you are supporting the exploitation of the Mexicans… If Mexicans want to come here they can come here legally, but to thumb their noses at our laws to get here? Doesn’t sound too American to me. Flying Mexican flags instead of American flags? Doesn’t sound like they wish to be Americans to me… You are very correct when you say immigrants built this country. Illegal immigrants did not. When I see illegal immigrants flying Mexican flags on U.S. soil protesting our government and our laws, I call that an invasion, not immigrants coming here looking for a better life or to help the American economy. Maybe if our jails weren’t packed with illegal immigrants, we would have enough cells to house our own prisoners. You try immigrating illegally to Mexico – you will be thrown in a jail cell. One more thing, with all of the illegal immigrants currently in America, their contributions do not account for hardly a majority of the amount of money that is spent providing them with social services or our jail costs.

BRING ON THE WALL. And instead of protecting Iraq’s border from insurgents, protect our own first.

I agree with you on most of your points. You threw many valid points out there

The crime factor is definitely a valid point. Other valid points not brought up are that they influence inflation of the American dollar and that they don’t pay taxes. The Drug Cartels and human slavery rings are also another valid point

You’re right about the billions spent overseas in those ungrateful countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. That money could have been used to fix the damn Social Security issue or other problems in the US.

Sadly, there are immigrants who come to this country to escape the poverty or government in their countries and to achieve that American dream. You say they should do it LEGALLY. Well… I know immigrants who work, pay their taxes and are spending thousands upon thousands of dollars in filing fees, lawyer fees, consultation fees, waiting year after year to become American citizens and they have yet to achieve that dream. So I can’t imagine how Pablo from Mexico who lives in a hut with dirt floors can achieve that American dream.

This is where the problem arises

First
I don’t see anywhere in my post where I am supporting the exploitations of immigrants. I was simply stating that the jobs **I **have seen illegal aliens working are the ones that most Americans would not want to do. Do I condemn the exploitation? Yes. Why are they exploited? One of the reasons they are exploited is because there are no programs that protect the illegal aliens from exploitation. Most of them do not say a word because they fear being deported.

The whole theory by most anti-immigration organizations that immigrants come here and take away jobs is total BS.At least they are working, unlike all these Americans scamming the Social Security and Welfare systems. Oh wait! Lemme guess! Only Minorities and immigrants are on welfare and scam the Social Security system.

Why don’t you go do a google search on the the Guest-Worker program that our fine President wants to bring into action. Here you thought that closing the borders would give Americans a fair chance at those jobs that immigrants take. WRONG!

Guest-Worker program simply put … Bring in foreign workers (temporarily) to do jobs Americans are least likely to do. So its okay for a Mexican to come and work here doing jobs that Americans are TOO COOL to take. But it is not okay for them to stay here. What does that say about our fine country here? This country was not built by AMERICANS. Learn your history and facts. This was a country that was built on the exploitation of slaves and immigrants (who were hired and brought in to do jobs Americans didn’t want to do then or now), but who now wants to close its borders to them. But hey! They’ll throw a bone at the dogs and let them come work jobs Americans aren’t willing to fill. What does that classify immigrants as? Below Americans. That my friend is my problem.

But… they do take away American jobs. If there were no Mexicans here, surely Americans would be doing them? I mean… so many of those so-called jobs that Americans wouldn’t do are jobs in which American contractors are underbid because of the cheap illegal labor. Then after the project has been screwed up, an American company has to come in and fix it. I see many Mexicans working jobs Americans DO do. Many times they don’t GET the jobs because no American would work for that low of a wage. That is what I call exploitation. I just don’t buy the argument that Mexicans are doing jobs Americans won’t. My argument is not that they are taking away American jobs, my argument is that they are here illegally. They are not undocumented immigrants or migrant workers. Plain and simple they are illegal aliens. In California many hospitals have been closed down because they HAVE to provide medical support to anyone who comes in for an emergency. Many of these illegals abuse the system and go in there to get a prescription for a cold. As a result, hospitals are closed down and Americans lose jobs. They can go into a hospital here in Colorado and demand a Spanish translator. I wonder how many Americans, be they Mexican-Americans, Chinese-Americans, African-Americans or Anglo-Americans have lost their lives because the hospital in their town closed down because the hospital was forced to provide support for illegals and their nearest hospital was 30 or 40 miles away.

I dunno man, I guess I am a sucker for charity. I guess I am just too soft. Or maybe I’m a liberal

Seriously, I feel all humans have a right to be free, escape that which oppresses them, escape poverty, feed their children, etc. That, I don’t usually get along well with Mexicans either, since there are rifts between Mexicans and Puerto Ricans. Not that I look at anyone’s ethnic background, gender or sexual preference, since that is not my business, nor do I judge them based on that.

There are good points to a wall and there are bad points to a wall. Reagan fought to bring down the Berlin wall and here we are bringing up a wall ourselves. I know comparing the Berlin Wall to this Wall is comparing apples to oranges but I feel humanity should have no barriers set in front of them, other than the ones put forward by God.

The Berlin wall was to keep people in, the proposed walls on the northern and southern borders are to keep people from entering America illegally. Two totally different situations. I think the appropriate thing to do instead of encouraging more illegal immigration would be to help get rid of the absolute corruption in Mexico. Here in Colorado, there was recently a news story in which an Arapohoe county worker is being threatened with termination because he has an American flag flying on his trailer which he uses to do his part-time landscaping work. His sign says “Lawncare done with pride by an English Speaking American.” Now, the county managers say that would be offensive to their Spanish speaking employees. He is not being racist or bigoted by flying that sign, but advertising that the landscaping will be done by someone that the land owner can understand. A majority of time, the landscaping contractors are Spanish speaking Americans or illegals. I just see this as him promoting his business. Hmm, if they speak Spanish, the chances are they are not here legally and don’t really know how to read English. I see signs all the time which say “se habla espanol” (which I have no problem with), but when stuff like this happens I just think we are losing our country.

God bless bro!

The fact that illegal people can all march and protest their treatment here is tell tale. They have no fear of being found. We are not interested in jailing them. We pay for their children to go to school, for the medical when they show up at hospitals, and much more. We do hire them because they work for low wages and because our governement does not inforce the laws. We put up with many illegal criminals in this mix also.

Legal immigration is the answer and we need to enforce it. As far as the jobs go, the nonsense of this argument is amazing. Jobs that Americans won’t do? Let me tell you that I am a teacher and when my children were young I had two teacher friends that also were home and we started a part time cleaning business to get some extra money. We babysat each other’s kids while we did it. So, I have cleaned houses and offices for a job. I also have been a waitress while going through college. There are many jobs illegals do that Americans would do, don’t kid yourselves.

Since there are employers that are artificially keeping costs down at the expense of hiring illegals for cheap immoral wages- then let that stop for that is immoral.

I’m not out in the farm country, and I know many illegals work there. But the ones I see in the city are doing construction, framing, laying concrete. Surely these are jobs that Americans have traditionally done, and are now being undercut by illegals.

There are many comments in this post that I agree with. I agree we should help people, that we should welcome immigrants, etc. But these should be LEGAL immigrants. We have a system that allows for immigration and we should follow it. These people are BREAKING THE LAW. And there are 12,000,000 of these immigrants who are ILLEGAL.

As for the idea that Mexicans did not fly planes into buildings, you are right. But do you suggest that we should leave the borders unprotected, making it easier for those who would do us harm to enter the country?

Our vote hungry politicians will not inforce the law lest they lose the Hispanic vote and meanwhile we are footing the bill. I say ENOUGH.

I’m not suggesting we leave the borders open. Or grant every immigrant that wants to come into this country free passage.

What bothers me is that the Mexicans are being singled out. When there are far more illegal immigrants in this country from all lands. The Mexican bashing is what is getting to me. Go to New York City, Boston, Connecticut, Florida, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania. There are immigrants from all lands with falsified documents that they paid for. People from Dominican Republic and Jamaica (who are the one of the highest contributors to drug trafficking up, down and around the eastern boarders) People from Cuba, Haiti, Nigeria, Greece, Russia and South American countries.

As well as the proposal by Bush for Guest-Workers. I feel that is kind of Elitist and puts Americans on a pedestal.

How are Mexicans being singled out? Have they been singled out in any of the proposed legislation? No.
