Hello all,

Just wondering if there are any 36 year old people out there who are not happy with the sexually immoral and lewd/crude behavior that we seem to be bombarded with on a daily basis. And do any of you think that it is a serious threat to marriage and family as we become slowly desensitized to it all. I am referring to things like TV shows-Sex in the City, Southpark, Girls Gone Wild videos, trash mouth comedians, etc. as well as people who get so drunk that they can’t stand up or behave inappropriately. I only ask because my husband (who is 36) says that people his age are OK with it and don’t see the problem. I maintain that he just does not know anyone who has a problem with it besides me.

Your thoughts? Don’t know why I need them, but I do.

Like you, I feel bombarded by this nonsense. If your husband and other people like it fine but I find it annoying. However, I do keep in mind that I have the power to turn the dial or change the channel.
 
I’m 24 and I feel the same. Just knowing that my husband is watching girls wearing barely nothings upsets me. I feel like I’m not good enough for him when he sees a “hot” girl on tv or in a movie. Even though he totally disagrees on me not “being good enough”, I cant help but feel this way. See what society has done!!!:crying:
 
Shows like that ARE garbage, and I will readily admit that unfortunately it is a huge temptation to me. Unfortunately many men my age(29)see television like this as the norm, and they’re right. Even a brief glimpse of a scantily clad woman in a beer commercial can get my mind going in the wrong direction. Not to mention some of the immoral talk on Sex and the City or South Park, which I try to avoid but succumb to watching every now and again. It is not pornography(if you’re looking to be thankful for something), but I would agree with you that it is a big deal. Not sure how to persuade your husband to change his viewing habits, except to maybe ask him if there’s anything that you can sacrifice in exchange for him not watching these shows.
 
I like south park, i admit, because it is funny, though crude. It can be very satirical, which I find a riot, much like the simpsons. You do have to take it as just being that. I don’t condone children watching it though. You have to have a sense of what is right and wrong.

I do agree that everything is sexual now, 4 out of 5 commercials are, most tv shows are, which I don’t agree with. Humour is one thing, beign bombarded with sex is another…
 
“Immorality Today” would make a good name for a satirical TV show.
 
the smartest thing you could ever do is pitch that TV in the river…

I agree it is coarsening, and by the time you’re my age (55) you will really be sick of that, and pop music lyrics, loud movie theaters and everything else the culture throws at you. My weakness was the old SNL reruns, which were great in the most part but toward the end they did a lot of very corrupt gay humor, some of it pretty shocking (a skit with Don Henley comes to mind). I mean, I could read a lot into it that was sort of cautionary but at the same time it tends to glorify behavior it purports to lampoon.

My husband would just sit there and I felt embarrassed to be laughing and now I realize I should have switched channels. Fortunately we have EWTN now. 🙂
 
I’m 35, my husband is 31, and yes, we are both sick to death of all the disgusting things on TV. When we sit down to watch TV we usually have a hard time finding something acceptable.

Two nights ago we put on public TV and were maybe going to watch a movie about Henry VIII until it came to a sex scene which was pretty graphic! I guess you can’t even trust public TV anymore. 😦
