hi people i just need to know if being impatient towards parents is only a venial sin.

I just went to confession this morning and confessed it and came home was looking for something that i cant find. My dad was helping me find it. i love him very much but he kept on asking me what are you trying to find and i told him 3 times the car shade cover the sliver one. but he kept on asking me and i got annoyed and said in a low tone voice whats wrong with you i told you 3 times.

i got a bit annoyed and i know i need to be alot more impatient him i was looking forward to having communion tonite. would it still be possible.

Sometimes when dealing with our parents we say things that we regret. We do not do it out of hate or malice or with the intent to harm, sometimes it just comes out. Parents understand. They have been there for you for your entire life.

Ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen you in your weakness. Ask for patience. Talk to you dad and ask him to forgive you. In this case it is seemingly more of a venial sin, if one at all. Remember for a mortal sin, its wrong, you know it is wrong and you do it anyway. Meaning that in this case, it would not fall under those categories. True we need to honor our father and mother, but circumstances can get us worked up too fast and cause us to do and say things that we regret later. Talk with you dad, I am sure he will understand.

Wow, this is the best advice that one can get in this situation.

Asking for forgiveness and also to forgive. Not only it absolves one of the sin committed (of course after confesion) but it also is life regenerating in term of relationship. Even better still if parents could also ask for forgiveness from their children when they were exeptionally harsh to them. Forgiveness heals. When parents do it, it will become powerful example for their children to follow. Forgiveness, if it becomes a culture in the family will certainly increase loving relatonship among family members.

I would say an act of contrition & Take Communion, also it might help if You might better understand your Father, maybe he has a hearing difficulty , only theorhetical , but possible he is under stress or something. I have the same problem, I lose patience with people too, who I know have problems, we are weak, we are Human, forgive your dad & forgive yourself

thanks ppl i do not want to displease GOD or the lord if i took communion in a state of mortal sin. every week i tend to ddo something that i start to think “oh no i what do i do. do i go stright to confession or is it ok and go to comminion”.

i want to start going monthly but i have been going weekly because sometime i can not figure out if the sins i commited where only venial or in a state of mortal so i have been going incase.

Just wanted to add: Another requirement for a sin to be mortal is that it must be “grave matter”.

It is not a sin to get annoyed by someone who asks you something several times that you have already answered- especially when you are trying to find something and they are distracting you from looking for it. If you were excessively angry or rude, it may have been a venial sin, but nothing more. Does your dad have a mental impairment of some kind? If so, there may have been more sin involved (probably still only venial though).

While this may be true, the severity of what the OP is doing should be looked through the application of the fourth Commandment. Honoring our parents call for action that will not put disrespect on them or cause anxiety and stress on both parties. We can justify our action of course but to tread the road of gentleness, and if that’s quite elusive depending on the situation, forgiveness and love will never fail and never wrong.

A person should start with patience and respect towards his parents. Should that’s unavoidable, asking for forgiveness is always in order. And the parent too - it would be showing such great example if parents can humble themselves to ask forgiveness from their children.
