As I was driving along the other day I felt the impression to pray the Divine Mercy chaplet, but I haven’t committed the Apostle’s Creed to memory yet (working on it). Was my prayer acceptable to God even though I left that out?

Yes your prayer is perfectly acceptable (no-one can pray to God as you do), prayer is an intent of the soul and love of the heart. It is a loving conversation between you and your God during which God looks at the heart of which words are a reflection of the disposition of the soul and heart.

The Holy Spirit makes prayer perfect no matter the choice of words to express our love or when words escape us.

Therefore don’t worry about methods or such things but express your heart to God in prayer. This is what is important. If a Priest forgot to say one of the Prayers at Mass because for some reason due to memory, do you think God would be outraged with him? I don’t think so, it is the Priests intent to offer a Holy Mass to God with God’s people that is important, not the fact his memory escaped him.

It’s just a simple mistake with no wrong intent behind it.

Pray and don’t worry about it and don’t go back to the beginning re-doing prayers, you’ll drive yourself crazy.

Think of watching your child try his/her best to do something for you. Watching them struggle to do their best…doesn’t the attempt just bring a tear to your eye? Our Father loves your effort and your attempt to do better.

Hmmm, imagine if some told you that your prayer was dangerous? 🙂

This person is not asking about CP, so why are you pursing this argument yet again.

I am entitled to hold an opinion on CP and there is evidence to support what I and other posters have said about this method. CAF apologists have given their answers also to this method you practise.forums.catholic-questions.org/search.php?searchid=1002643. There are erroneous ways of praying which is nothing to do with this poster and her question. She has made no error.

I don’t think it is appropriate to interrupt this posters thread about her question which is nothing to do with CP.

Why do you harrass me?

God Bless you

I’m not harassing you, nor am I speaking about CP, specifically.

I agree with your statement,

"prayer is an intent of the soul and love of the heart, "

but asking, how you would feel, if some one told you that this as dangerous?

Jim

What is the perfect prayer? The Our Father, during Mass, the Mass, in a state of grace, CP, groanings in tongues? I say the Our Father as commanded. What do you all think? To the OP, any and all prayer is heard. I’m a stickeler for details during prayer at times, but don’t let it get the best of you. It is about intentions.🙂 Tim

Perfect prayer is as blessedstar said. Its the intent of the sould and love of the heart toward God.

As soon as we turn our hearts and will toward God, it is perfect prayer, and words aren’t even necessary.

Wouldn’t a perfect prayer be one that conforms to the Will of God, despite ourselves at times even? Tim

You know perfectly well what you are doing. You don’t like what I have had to say about CP and you don’t like what others have had to say about CP nor do you like what the CAF apologists have had to say about CP whch have stated it as dangerous. If you don’t like it and you have certain ‘feelings’ because you don’t like it then ignore all that people have had to say about the topic of CP, you choose what you do.

What is it that you want to provoke me to say?

I don’t think you should hijack this thead any further.

I am harrassed by your persistance and I would like you to stop this pursuit now if you don’t mind, thank you.

What is the will of God?

To love the Lord God with all your heart, all your soul.

Prayer that is from your soul, and from the heart to God, is perfectly following His will.

There are erroneous methods people use to pray of which CP has been noted. It has been expounded by the Apologists on this site.

May I remind you Jim that it is against site rules in the section ‘conduct’ :

Do not view the discussion area as a vehicle for single-mindedly promoting an agenda.

Therefore I am requesting that you srtop singlemindedly pursuing this topic with me in a thread that has nothing to do with ‘dangerous methods’ or centering prayer.

Our prayer, our faith in the Lord are imperfect. However, by sanctifying grace, it makes us acceptable to God; hence, our prayers are acceptable to Him.

Am I wrong in my thinking?
Thanks!

One night I was lying in bed and something had infested my thoughts. This was before I came back to the Church. I was bothered by this unknown greatly and the thought of praying to St. Michael and God came into mind. I asked to know the truth. I meant about a particulair matter, but a few weeks later I had an illumination that turned my life around. The bible was put in my hand within minutes of this experience and I read Proverbs for the first time. I recognized it as the truth and read outloud for 1/2 an hour in perfect joy. I faced alot of truths that night, some painful. That prayer was imperfect to say the least, but I only had to convey the request and the Lord fulfilled the request beyond anything I could ever imagine. For me, at that time, without deep thought, a perfect prayer was made by God out of what came from me. He perfected my request to conform to His Will. I only had to ask and I received. I now tend to prefer to K.I.S.S., keep it simple stupid. I’m an army dog, what can I say.🙂 Tim

i guess any prayer is perfect no matter how much we stumble over it as long as we try our best and it comes sincerly from our hearts with love…

personally i would say the most perfect prayer would be the our father because when the apostles ask jesus to teach them to pray this is the prayer he taught them…and also the mass because it is the sacrifice on calvary being repeated over and over again…

I personally don’t think prayer needs to be perfect all the time. It’s a conversation with God which is only possible through God. The Holy Spirit makes up for our deficiencies during prayer. But if you don’t think that that is enough, you can always ask the saints to help you out as well.

I had to learn most of the formal prayers on my own with only His help and sometimes the words get scrambled (especially the Jesus prayer during the rosary). But I am confident that the Holy Spirit has made up for whatever my prayer is lacking. I’m not hung up on technique either. I say or do whatever I am prompted to do during prayer time. If I say a formal prayer that I don’t know the words then I read from a written copy of that prayer until I know it by heart. My prayer is sometimes like my spelling and writing, sometimes it’s not accurate but I’m sure you get the drift. 😉
