I have been told by many anti-catholics that all Catholic Miracles are Satanic in origin because “The devil can perform signs and wonders too”.
It is a true statement as you see in Exodus that magicians of the devil perform the same miracle Moses performs but that’s pretty flimsy reason for rejecting them. And there are so many in the Catholic Church that I think are beyond his power, like the turning of Eucharists in to true fless, the incorruptables, and there are many, many examples of saints actually raising the dead. Something I do not believe satan has the power to do. I saw a book at Leaflet Missal that spoke of 300 cases where Catholic saints raised the dead.

Joan Cruz has a book called “The Incorruptables” with many pictures of incorrupt saints. I believe there are around 200 of them she lists in that book. Some such as St. John Vianney are in great shape.

Blessings

What is actualy meant by "incoruptable since there has been mold on some of the bodies? And who is the auther of the book “The Incoruptables?”

The flesh of an incorruptable did not decompose. At most, the flesh dried to a greater or lesser degree, but it remained intact against natural decay. There may have been mold “on” the bodies, but it was not “in” the bodies and it was quite easily cleaned off.

Here’s one of the books, by Joan Carroll Cruz:

I am a little confused as to what we are actually seeing. Is this truly Bernadette’s face? Is the wax clear?

"At the exhumation, it was noted that a small portion of the skin on the face had discolored slightly, due probably to the washing the body had received and its exposure to the organisms of the air. Consequently, it was decided to cover the face and hands with light wax masks. The firm of Pierre Imans in Paris was contacted, and they agreed to make the necessary masks."

St. Vincent De Paul

Is this really Vincent De Paul…or is this the “wax figure?” Is his heart the only incorrupt part?

His bones are encased in a wax figure, and rest in a reliquary in the chapel of the Vincentian Fathers in Paris. His still incorrupt heart is enclosed on the altar of his shrine in the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity in Paris.”

My question is…how much embalming is done to the body to preserve it like this? Are the organs of these holy people removed, is the body totally intact? Lenin was embalmed and well preserved for decades, was put in a glass case so others could view him.

The incorruptables were not preserved like ancient Egyptians. Any mummification that occured was a natural drying, with the organs still in place.

The point is that the incorruptables were not only NOT embalmed, but that the flesh is still soft and supple. Take note of Bernadette’s fingers - how they curve and mesh easily.

Normally, the fingers are almost the first part of a deceased person’s body to show the effects of death. It is nearly impossible for a mortician to position the hands in a “natural” pose because the finger joints lock tight. See the picture of Lenin below, and note how different his fingers appear from Bernadette’s fingers.

I read about Lenin’s perpetual embalming. Every year the officials have to take his body off display to re-treat it with wax and whatever else they use. If I remember correctly, eventually the hands had deteriorated so badly that the morticians completely replaced them with identical wax replicas. And, even though the body is encased in glass, none of the viewing public can inspect it closely enough to be sure that the rest of the body is truly flesh and not wax. Of course, in the days of the Soviet Union, the only people who would suggest aloud that the body might not be real were those who had an insane desire to be shipped off to a gulag. No, Valdimir Lenin is NOT one of the incorruptables. http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/sick/sick0025.gif

You have to be very careful here!!! Some saints WERE embalmed and there are records of it. Others were not. Some protestants will want to smear valid incorruptions with the embalmings. Be prepared. They will cite Pravda (LOL) and the Discover article…

Any comments on this yet?

One poster mentioned that Blessed John XXIII was NOT embalmed. This isn’t so, he was, in fact. I don’t have the book in front of me, but they had to embalm him for him to lie in state for even a short time, as with most stomach cancer patients. May he rest in peace and pray for us

Saint Bernadette is also covered in wax, at least the exposed parts of her holy remains. May she, too, rest in peace and pray for us.

One of the popes, whoever it was that codified how saints were to be canonized, perhaps Pius V, but I can’t remember, cautioned that incorruptibility was indeed not a sure and certain sign of sanctity, and was something that could be duplicated by Satan.

On Bernadette it is only a thin layer of wax on her face to prevent it from drying out.

Such an amount is no way a preservative, any ordinary corpse would have decayed long ago wax or no wax.

I think the image of St Vicncent de Paul is a wax figure, his bones are enclosed.

There are other saints whose bodies are incorrupt, St Catherine of Bologna, and St Rita of Cascia.

Works of the devil do not help lead folks to believing in God or to more prayer. That would be counter productive.

The miracles and cures that are associated with these saints have clearly led many, many more folks closer to God than to Satan. IF this is Satan’s strategy, it is a real stupid and ineffective one.

I assume you were addressing what I said. I was merely bringing up what a pope had said regarding this and the need for caution when a body is found to be incorrupted. This is why the Church is generally slow and careful when she proposes to canonize someone.

The flesh of St. Vincent’s body decayed. His heart did not. His heart is now in a shrine in the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity in Paris.
