This is going to sound strange, but whenever I listen to a certain band, I can’t help but to have impure thoughts about a few of the members. This is by no means a mainstream “over-sexualized” band, but rather a band with thought-provoking lyrics. I guess that I am just that attracted to the intellect. What should I do? This music is very helpful in my day-to-day life. I don’t want to give them up.

Well, there’s a couple things. What works for me to get a better image of a song, without impure images or thoughts, is to set it to my favorite tv show. Are you familiar with fan made music videos? They’re where fans take clips and scenes form movies and TV shows and make a music video out of them with their favorite songs. After I see one, it becomes what the image in my head when I hear that song, instead of the artists. This could work for you, depending on the show, of course!

Also, take a thought at your ipure thoughts. Are they sexual thoughts, or just thoughts of, Golly, Keith Urban’s a cutie-pie! There’s a differnce

If they’re highly sexcual thoughts, and you cannot get rid of them, then these songs may well be an occasion of sin for you, and you would be prudent to avoid them, at least for a while

You must either break the habit of thinking impurely about the band members or stop listening altogether. This is clearly an occasion of sin for you, and we are bound to avoid those.

Sometimes we have to deny ourselves certain things if we wish to be serious as Christians, followers of Christ. Since listening to this kind of music causes you to have impure thoughts then you had better decide what to follow. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak indeed. We all have our weaknesses so only if we cling to Christ can we overcome them. I’m sure there are other types of music in the same genre which may not give occasions to sin so maybe you can go for those.
