Besides masturbation, what are considered impure acts with self?

Any sort of self-stimulation or manipulation with the specific goal of sexual arousal, erotic pleasure, etc. The sinful part comes in when a person is “using” his body or some instrument for the purpose of sexual pleasure or excitement.

Now here’s an important distinction for some people who are overly guilt-ridden or scrupulous. All pleasure is not bad. If you are taking a shower and notice the hot water feels nice and relaxing on your shoulders, that is a normal experience of your body in a healthy way. Or perhaps you enjoy putting on fragrant hand lotion and notice the nice smell. That unto itself is not impure.

There is a “turning the corner” (for a normal person) when we start to focus on creating an erotic experience, that is the dividing line we want to avoid.

Anything that you do that defiles yourself as a person, such as masturbation, watching pornography, fornication, homosexual acts etc. St. Paul said seek pleasures of the spirit, not of the flesh. Gal 5:25-26; 6:1-10

The feeling of hot water on your shoulders in the shower seems quite sensual to me. I don’t understand how this theology and can make a distinction between the “sexual” and the “non-sexual” parts of the body in this way. The whole person is a sexual being; The whole body feels sexual pleasure as a whole, it is only that the sexual organs are the more sensitive parts of the body.

Something sensual is not necessarily something sexual. Something sexual is not necessarily something impure. Something sensual is not necessarily impure. If you find hot water to feel sensual, regardless of whether it’s on your shoulders, knees, or hands, the point is not WHERE, it’s that it is NOT impure, it is not a deliberate attempt to sexually arouse yourself. Drinking a glass of water is sensual! Especially on a hot day! Is drinking water sexual? NO. Impure NO.
