What exactly are you asking? Are you asking if grace requires a response to be active in our lives?
Yes. What lover does not want a response from the beloved? God is first of all a lover his people. He delights in our response to his gift of himself.
 
I am in conflict with the idea of comforting being covered and actually being co-operation with God.
 
I am sorry I do not understand.
Should the Christian life be one of spiritual comfort? Yes and no.
God wishes peace for us, and at the same time we are people on a journey, which is not always comfortable.

Cooperation with grace means accepting the offer of peace and doing the challenging things God gives us to do. I hope that helps.
