When I pray sometimes I end it with something like “We ask these things in Jesus name” JUst wondering… It sometimes seems a little protestant to me. After talking with some Mormon missionarys and thier views on who Jesus is I am questioning more and more why I choose to end a prayer that way. Any thougts…

well, it is from the bible actually…
11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. 12I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
so, you aren’t being protestant, you are being Christian. mormons don’t believe what Christians believe about Jesus.

I like ending prayers with “through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You (God) and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.” Gives emphasis on the Holy Trinity, which I understand Mormons and other fringe Christian groups don’t believe in, either.

I think that when we end our prayers “in Jesus name” we need to think for a moment what he did for us. I do not like to just throw it out at the end of praying. I try to think of all that He did for us and what He does for us now.

It’s not very different from ending a prayer with the sign of the cross and saying “In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen”

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

This is correct. Another common form of ending the prayer is “through Christ our Lord”.
