People who are judgmental are usually always corrected. Can a person struggle with being judgmental and self-righteous? The common thing I hear is Jesus was the most harsh on the judgmental, self-righteous Pharisees. Does that mean they are worse of sinners? Are you automatically a bad person if you display these qualities. What about Christians who are racist? God’s greatest commandment is love. If you have no love for others, does that mean you are not a real/true Christian?

I was just thinking today about how moralistic most of us consider Catholicism. And yet when was Jesus “moralistic?”

Oh yeah, He told the woman, “go and sin no more,” but not until after he unconditionally saved her without even first hearing her confession.

When He spoke to the woman at the well, He described her living situation, but He did not chide her for it or even tell her she has to change it.

Yes, what got Him upset and caused Him to go off, were people who WERE moralistic.

And yet what do most Catholics who practice at all act like it’s about? A behavior contest. We already knew we couldn’t win a behavior contest; that’s why Jesus came in the first place.
