I am looking for web sites that substantively praise, laud, explain the need for, justify, and / or explain Vatican Council II. I require edification. Thank you.

Perhaps I should find books via ILL instead. Who are your favorite sythesizers of Vatican II, and all that lead up to it? Which writers have done a good job of showing what Vatican II is all about?

Vatican II was called because according to one theologian Pope John XXIII
" saw a world that had fallen away not just from the Catholic Church but also from Christian faith. Europe, once the centre of Christian civilisation, was now a mission field. The whole world needed to hear a fresh, effective proclamation of the gospel. Yet John XXIII realised that Christianity was divided and in terrible shape to offer a compelling witness to the world. Thus, prompted by the Spirit, Pope John decided to convene a council to chart a course towards greater unity and more effective evangelization."

Pope Paul VI in his Evangelization in the modern world,
and Pope John Paul II in “Mission of the Redeemer” describe this new evangelization.

But is is most clearly described in the General Directory for Catechesis, where much of Vatican II is quoted.
