Good Morning Brothers and Sisters!

As an RCIA director for my parish, I am interested in the stories of those of you who may be starting RCIA this year and what your experiences are throughout the year with the program.

So . . .
  1. When Does RCIA start in your parish?
  2. What day(s) do you meet with the RCIA team?
  3. What promted you to go to RCIA classes?
  4. What are you most looking forward to?
  5. What are you most concerned about?
God Bless.

I am on the RCIA team at my parish. It looks like we will have 7 candidates and 2 catechumans this year.
We had an informal meeting on Wed Aug 25th and had our first official meeting this last wednesday, and we meet every wednesday evening.

this is my first year on the team.

Dan, welcome to an exciting experience. Having been the RCIA director for 5 years now, I can tell you with certainty, nothing will reinvigorate and enliven your faith like assisting others find Christ and His Church.

God Bless You and Thank you.

I will be starting RCIA on the 4th of October…we’ll meet on Mondays and on Sundays for Breaking Open the Word. I am really looking forward to learning more about the faith I am choosing. I’m a little nervous about it, but excited at the same time.

My husband who was born to a Catholic family, will also be attending with me, and we will be confirmed together at the Easter Vigil.

We may be the only 2 people participating in RCIA at our parish this year, but I don’t know for sure yet.

What kind of advice to you have for someone getting ready to start RCIA?

Thanks,
Jamie

Relax. Enjoy. Have fun and an open mind. I converted 6 years ago.😃

I’m on the RCIA team this year and was last year too. We started last week. We have a lot of people this year–about 20, which is twice as many as last year, and a lot for this particular parish (though it’s growing).I’m very interested to hear about people’s experiences and what they like and don’t like.

Welcome Jamie,

Good to have you on the journey with us. This is my advice. A relationship with God is always a journey. It is not a destination (in this life). Remeber that through your experience of accepting the Catholic Church and Christian Initiation, you are coming home to a family . . . and joining us on our family road trip to heaven. Papa is driving, Mama is telling him where to go and we are all learning how to have better relationships (with God through Christ by the Holy Spirit and with one another) along the way.

God is with you on the journey

-Ross

What a blessing!! May the Lord continue to increase the harvest.

Oh and Daria, thank you for taking your time to be a guide on the Way.

1) RCIA at All Saints parish started last Monday night.
They still take new members through September.

2) RCIA meets Monday nights at 7:30 PM.
RCIC starts next Thursday night.

3) Archbishop Fulton Sheen is most responsible for prompting me to go. Blessed Father Damien (Kalaupapa, HI) and others helped. And Holy Water and blessings and other sacramentals.

4) I am most looking forward to my family joining me in going to the Catholic Church.

5) I have a number of big concerns (all pertaining to my life and circumstances, no concerns of Church doctrine).

Welcome to our little RCIA corner. Please feel free to share your experience of RCIA, especially of the Rites and Sacraments. We would love to hear how you are progressing on your journey of faith.

God Bless

  1. When Does RCIA start in your parish?
    September
  2. What day(s) do you meet with the RCIA team?
Thursday nights from 7 pm to 9 pm until May.
  3. What promted you to go to RCIA classes?
My then boyfriend (now my husband) wanted to become Catholic, so I decided to join as a sponsor. We are now both members of the team and in our 4th year of this wonderful process.
  4. What are you most looking forward to?
I love to see the positive changes and spiritual growth in everyone (candidates, sponsors, team) as we let God come into our lives and answer his call to come closer to him. I am also looking forward to Easter vigil and seeing our 28 candidates receive their sacraments.
  5. What are you most concerned about?
I would like for all to learn the true teachings of the Church. I would like to be a good example to others in my living and sharing of the faith. Also I hope my baby behaves during the meetings!
God bless you all in your RCIA journey!

Jamie

Welcome to RCIA! This is such an awesome process! I would recommend the following:

(1) Be open to this calling and whatever God has for you during this process.

(2) Attend all the meetings, retreats and rites. Sometimes it may be difficult when you already have a schedule full of other things to do, but the effort is worth it.

(3) Buy the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Refer to it often.

(4) Go to Mass and get involved in your local parish community.

(5) Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Catholic Answers is a great resource. Listen to their radio program too!

(6) Make time for prayer. Ask people to pray for you too!

(7) Have fun and enjoy!

Remember that the RCIA is not just your parish. We are all in this journey together, people all over the world going thru the same rites, classes, etc. and we are also part of a much bigger family - the Catholic church.

God bless,

Lydia
