I’m LDS and I’m studying the Catholic church, and one of the things that I’m most curious about is how Catholics believe they will go to Heaven. How do you go to Heaven?
819 "Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth"273 are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: "the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements."274 Christ’s Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church. All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him,275 and are in themselves calls to "Catholic unity."276
If you have a chance to do this, it’s a good thing to do, but it is not absolutely required to get to Heaven.I think I read somewhere on here that someone has to go to confession to confess their sins before they pass?
It’s important to note that Purgatory is where we pay the debt for sins of which we have already repented and been forgiven. At death, a person who has not done this sufficiently yet who still loves and adheres to God is washed clear in Purgatory of remaining sin and the penalty for sin, then admitted to heaven.
I think this is a good example of why I would recommend taking most of what you read here with a grain of salt. Although most here do their best to give advice based on the teachings of the Catholic Church, quite often they don’t give a complete explanation or their opinions might sneak in as well.I think I read somewhere on here that someone has to go to confession to confess their sins before they pass?
