In the light of modern neuroscience, what is the function of the soul?

I do not doubt the existence of the soul, but I am a bit confused. In the light of modern neuroscience, what is the definition of the soul? What is the souls function? The brains effect on the mind is pretty apparent in the case of mental disorders. Has the Church taken a stance on this?
 
Hi,

Neuroscience does not have the tools to deal with the spiritual. The Church teaches that the soul is the life principal of the body. When the sould leaves the body, the body dies.
