It’s looking more and more likely that I will become Catholic. I’m in RCIA. I’m getting lonely not having a personal, faithful Catholic or catechumen friend to talk about Catholic things with. I’m a 20 year old male that lives in a small, very Protestant town (no Catholic Parish in town). Does anyone have any advice about making new Catholic or catechumen friends online?

Welcome! I can’t guarantee we’re near your age, but we’re all friends here! Do you have a sponsor? They might have some ideas, as would your Priest and Catechists.

I don’t think I have a sponsor. Is my RCIA teacher my sponsor? I’m going to get more involved with my small class as I attend the sessions I can make.

Talk with your RCIA teacher - some Parishes will help you find a sponsor. When I went through RCIA, I was the lone person in the class - now that was a small class.

Okay, I will talk to my teacher about it.

Only student and former Baptist… I’m assuming you are from the southeast US as well haha.

My parent was from the south, transplanted to Detroit. So, the Baptist connection 🙂

Oh okay. I think I read somewhere that Reformed (Calvinist) churches are big in Michigan. Correct me if I’m wrong

I wouldn’t trust anyone online.

If I were you, I’d go to the local parish you’ll be attending & see if they need help with anything, see if any of their youth activities aren’t suspended.

😃 Boy howdy!

My parish had a certified Catechist as instructor and 4 team members; 4 years ago our class was all of 2 people - both really great guys. And that is the smallest class I have known.

Christian fellowship is primarily exercised in person, as an extension of our Catholic faith and belief in the goodness of all created things, and the dignity of the human person.

Have you investigated what kinds of events and ministries are offered by your Catholic parish? Is there a Bible Study, a young adults group, a movie night, retreats or anything like that? If your parish has limited offerings, then check in your diocese. My diocese has an active and vibrant events calendar; if I had a car, I’d be jetting all over the place to be the social butterfly.

I highly recommend googling “Theology on Tap” groups in your area. It’s young adult (18-35?)Catholics that usually meet in pubs to hang out and, of course, also discuss theology!
God bless!

Hi I’m a 19 year old Catholic. Do you have Instagram? My religious Instagram is @findingcatholicpeace you can message me on there

Sounds interesting! I’ll try to remember when I transfer to a university which is in a bigger city.
