How many spoonfuls of incense should be placed in the censer (thurible)?
 
Monkey Friends says, that’s a lot of incense! :eek:

Monkey Friend put like half a spoonful at most in own censer.

It truly does depend on the type of incense, the size of the spoon and the heat of the charcoal.

Experiment a bit. Start with 3 for the Trinity… 😉

Yes it does, you also have to be aware of the people in the pew. Some people get sick with too much incense, so discretion is usually better.
 
We have very sensitive new smoke alarms in our parish so we had to cut back the number of spoonfully to 2. In our chapel we can only use about a 1/4 spoonfull…we learned that the hard way…boy those new smoke alarms are really loud

But, it certainly helps to mask the odor of the folks who trot into Mass immediately after competing in a biking marathon and who haven’t had the chance to change from their biker shorts into slacks and a shirt. 😃

Seriously, I actually put a whole bunch when we were using the incense that smells just like the essence of Chrism. It’s one of those aromas that one never gets tired of smelling. If y’all are interested, you can order this from the Holy Rood Guild. It is awesome. 👍
 
Depends on the incense. My preference is for the Eastern Orthodox-style incense that does not have wood chips in it. It has a more floral scent with less smoke and there are many scents to choose from. Many popular “western-style” incenses have flakes of wood mixed with frankincense, and as the wood chars the smoke can more readily irritate those who are sensitive to smoke.
 
If you are going to use incense use it and make sure everybody knows it. I hate to see a thurifer being used with hardly any or no smoke coming out. 👍
