I’d be interested to know if I committed a sin in this incident:

When I was out driving, I was approaching a junction, driving well within the speed limit. I had the right-of-way to continue driving through, but then a car pulled out without warning from my left, and crossed my path.

As I saw the car crossing my path, I braked reasonably hard, and indeed if I had not braked, I would have hit the other car. I was also worried because there was another car on the road behind me, driving far too close to me, and I was worried as I braked it would hit me! Fortunately, it did not.

Anyway, as the car from the left was crossing my path about 15metres in front of me, I hit the horn at them.

Question then: Was it a sin to hit the horn?

You hit the horn when the car crossed about 15m (which is about 50 feet). That’s kinda far, isn’t it 😃 ? Typically a driver would tap or honk his horn if another car is about to hit him. That I consider a normal reaction by every motorist and not a sin. Your hitting the horn was futile at the least and what I consider a delayed reaction. I think you’re being scrupulous here. If you had been muttering obscenities or screaming them at the other driver, wishing him ill or became aggressive then THAT would be sinful. Only you know why you honked at a car that was well in front of you.

Well, did you honk out of anger? That’s when I tend to. If you honk to warn someone and prevent them from hitting you, that seems reasonable. But if you honked because you were ticked off, well…now is it a great sin? Of course not, it’s part of our nature and one of those things we have to battle every day. When I do things like that (and I frequently do and try not to) I quickly say a “sorry” to the Lord and move on…it’s nothing to dwell on or worry about.

My goodness…if that was the worse you did. Horns are there for a reason I say. Use it…just don’t abuse it

Personally, I like to use my horn as an educational tool for my fellow drivers. 😃

I trust the Lord will forgive me for it. 😉

Regarding the distance, my car was about 5-10 feet away when the car crossed my path. I never was much good at maths!

Thanks to everyone for replying.

God bless

If you hit the horn in order to warn of danger, you did well.
If you hit the horn in anger, then it was sinful, …a tiny sin, but a sin none the less.
Sin is when we do anything against the will of God. Would God want us to yell at each other in anger over such petty things? (hornblowing is yelling in a very real sense) I don’t think so. Anger is a sin, more often than not.

I LOVE your reasoning!! I’ll have to remember that as I am a firm believer in a good education. :rotfl: :rotfl:
