I am wondering how much money does the pope make? Based on my own knowledge that the income the pope receives is close to the middle-class. Correct me if I am wrong.

The Pope receives three coins per year that he is Pope— one bronze coin, one silver coin, and one gold coin. Then upon his death, all the coins will be placed into a bag and put into his coffin. These are symbolic of the laborer being paid his wage.

The Pope isn’t paid anything.

No, U.S. unfortunately. I LOVE Wales however…Cardiff is one of my favorite places in the world!

I’d imagine is something like the U.S. president. Every need is provided for and paid for by the taxpayers or church in the case of the pope. What else do you need money for?

The US president does not have a salary? 😮 I doubt it. Plus the president is layman and if he had say like 100 bucks saved at the end of the presidency he can leave to his family. The pope is a priest. If he has anythibg he cannot leave as legacy anything to his family. It all goes to the Church.

The US president certainly has a significant salary, as well as expense accounts. The salary has generally been significant; today’s $400,000 is a bit more than half the $25,000 that Washington received.

Congress was quite insistent on Washington having a salary, having fallen for his offer to take no salary but pay his expenses during the Revolutionary War . . .

Also, the current president, and some of the other wealthier presidents, have declined or donated the salary.

Here’s a historical list of salary:

This isn’t quite accurate. Secular priests have personal property and may certainly leave it to whomever they please. Order priests do not have personal property.

This is true, a priest near hear, left a personal property that sold for over a million dollars. The proceeds went to help the fund for victims of church clergy abuse.

Sorry for the confusion, that’s not what I meant. I meant that the pope is probably provided for in the same way as the president therefore doesn’t need much of an income. If your house, transportation, clothes, food, entertainment, vacations were all paid for by someone else would any of us need an income?

For freedom! 😃 So you don’t have to give accounts to the provider for the entertainment, vacation, food etc. The only between you and how you spend your money being the only true authority in the Universe, God.
I think there is also a thing in the Torah about it. That the only third party in an exchange of goods (or money) must be God and no one else.

Though Castel Gandolfo has been the summer retreat for many popes for over 400 years, Pope Francis chooses to stay in Rome, and I don’t think he has ever been there. He says he doesn’t like the quiet and fewness of people there and just prefers to stay in bustling Rome.

Looking at a couple articles, it seems bishops make the same amount as priests in the US, maybe a little more (they get other perks though too, like free housing). According to the article below, Pope’s do not receive a salary and never have:
