I'm wondering what you do to increase your Faith.
I have been doing the Rosary everyday. I keep a good communication going with God throughout my day. I have begun to read the True Devotion to Mary, I am trying to do good for others.
I’m saying all this because yesterday I had a real tough time with a job situation I was waiting to hear back about and it seemed like I threw everything out the window. I was angry, self pitying, unhappy. I took my own will back and no matter how many times I said let God’s will be done I was still unhappy.
I am better today but I was wondering how you deal with these type of situations. The thing I am doing today is trying to focus more on my prayer instead of just lip service. The lesson I learned was that I need to do things to really increase my Faith and I as looking to hear how others have accomplished this.
I’m just happy God is forgiving.

Faith is a spiritual gift. There is nothing you can do to increase it, but you can and should pray to the Lord to increase your faith. Don’t be too hard on yourself. We all have good days and bad days. What you are doing is good! Keep it up, especially the rosary. I will pray for you.

Hello

Like urqhart said keep on praying, we do have good and bad days,
praying can be easy at times and a struggle at times and distracting at times.

There is reason beyond us when we do not get what we desired, the answer will be given in a later date.

God does have good things given to us, we just have to find them gradually.

Faith can be increased by attending mass often if you can. Get into a routine of pray, attending mass, reading the bible, confession then you gradually start to see things more clearly.

God Bless
Saint Andrew.

Thanks for the good words.
I do attend Mass on a regular basis. It is the only time I really feel serenity. I am so comfortable and relaxed there. I do plan on reading the Bible more often, I want to be reading some daily and right now my reading is sporadic.
I liked what you said about Faith being a gift, I don’t recall hearing that before. I will continue to keep praying. Time…

Just to let you know I did receive an e-mail from the manager, they are interviewing more people and he said he will get back to me when they narrow down their choices.

Thank You for the prayers.

God Bless,
Joe

Eucharistic Adoration can be a big help! It’s one of the many great blessings offered to us to help us through tough times, or any other for that matter. Just sitting praying in the presence of Jesus is so personal, and He will touch your heart in some way.

Joe:

My first thought is that you recognized your shortcomings and that you will learn from them. That’s really the biggest point in “tests” that come up. I had one just three weeks ago and failed MISERABLY! So, I have empathy for what you felt.

Anyway - I went on a retreat this past weekend - my first ever - and found that there are so many things I can DO to grow closer to my God, but really, in all reality - I am on this Earth to praise and glorify God and I can do that in everything - EVERYTHING - I do.

So whether I’m typing for the boss, doing laundry or praying - it is my hope that my whole existence becomes praise to God.

It really is something to finally realize that we are nothing without God… and it is most pleasing to Him to come to him in everything we do with that attitude.

So maybe it isn’t that there’s more you need to do that would be more effective - maybe it’s that you do what you do with complete and total focus on Him.

Thanks for the latest replies. Just in church this morning the Priest spoke about becoming Christ-like in all that we do. I come home and this is here. I also just found out that I didn’t get the job. I’m ok with it right now. Just praying. I also went online and applied to a homeless shelter here in Boston. I want to be able to help people when I go to work. In time things will get better I just need to keep praying and stay close to God.

Thanks!

Hi Compactdiss,

I do admire your efforts to help the homeless. I hope it works out for you…I just got back from a conference in Chicago.
I’m a real sucker for helping out people begging on the street, most of the time I will stop and talk with them and give them some money or food if I have it and then ask the Lord to bless them.
It seems I’m the only one doing this…as others just ignore them.
as for deeping your faith…working with the homeless lost souls of the world will make a BIG difference in your spiritual life.
I often ask our blessed lady for her intercession to teach me how to pray from my heart to our Lord…this has helped me.
God be with you.

Consider contemplative prayer.

The Catechism talks about contemplative prayer more than meditative and vocal combined, and yet many Catholics have never heard of it.

Also consider finding a spiritual director, if there is a good one in your area. You can probably call your diocesan office to find out.

FuzzyBunny116:
Whats contemplative prayer?
The real answer is that “Contemplative prayer” or “contemplation” is a gift by God, which He may give us at His pleasure when we dispose ourselves such that we invite Him.

The short answer is that contemplative “prayer forms” involve silent prayer. It seeks interior silence. Loosely but not completely accurately, we use “contemplative prayer” to apply to prayer forms or techniques which seek interior silence, such as Lectio Divina or centering prayer.

Check out the Catechism paragraphs 2700-2724, which talks about three forms of prayer, vocal, meditative, and contemplative. It speaks more about contemplative than the other two combined, and being true Union with God, points out that the other prayer forms are a good introduction to prayer, but really prayer life should seek true Union with Him through contemplation.

One quick quote:
CCC 2724:
Contemplative prayer is the simple expression of the mystery of prayer. It is a gaze of faith fixed on Jesus, an attentiveness to the Word of God, a silent love. It achieves real union with the prayer of Christ to the extent that it makes us share in his mystery.

Prayer
Charity work (Almsgiving)
Reading the Bible
Taking of the sacraments (Confessions and Eucharist) as much as possible

The Bible and CCC recommend all of these as ways to build faith…
