Incredible Parallel Between Jeremiah and Matthew

Has anyone else ever noticed the remarkable parallel between Jeremiah 39:3 and Matthew 2?

In Jeremiah 39:3, the prophet describes the sack of Jerusalem. He depicts the Babylonian rulers entering Jerusalem and taking their seats at the gates of the city. Then, they proceed to depose the Davidic line and send the King of Judea into exile. The title of one of the Babylonian officials is Rab-Mag. In La Bible de Jerusalem (Jerusalem Bible in French), they translate Rab-Mag as “chief of the Magi.”

I think it’s a beautiful parallel. Jeremiah shows the Magi coming to Jerusalem and deposing the Davidic line. Then, St. Matthew shows the Magi coming to Jerusalem hundreds of years later to restore the Davidic line.

I love how the NT “undoes” what happened in the OT. For example, the conquering of Israel, by the Assyrians, began in the region of Galilee. Where did the restoration of the Kingdom begin? In Nazareth, by the Sea of Galilee!
