Does anyone know what Independent Fundamental Baptist Mission Means? How do they compare to say - Southern Baptist believe? Do they tend to be Anti-Catholic?

The " Independent Fundamental Baptist" websites that I’ve seen online have indeed been HIGHLY a-C in their rhetoric. They also seem to have almost no knowlege of history or the early church. :rolleyes:

Hello,

I attended a independent Baptist church for three years. Independent Baptist don’t believe in religious authority outside the individual church. SO no big conventions like the Southern Baptists. At least that is how it was explained to me. They also believed in once saved, always saved. As far as anti-catholic. my former pastor did not want anyone to see the Passion because Mel Gibson is Catholic.
 
I have know a couple of independant Baptist Churches (I was Southern Baptist). Since they are independant, there is no easy generalization about them. The two I knew were against any but the most casual relationship between two churches. They tried to recruit SBC’s to their way of thinking and were strongly Calvinistic.

I never met anyone who was a member that wasn’t very arrogant about it. This should not be taken as a generalization, though as I knew no more that ten people who were members. If anything it might reflect more on me, since I was in my early twenties and thought I knew everything.
 
They take the “fun” out of fundamentalism. I mean, they are the hell-fire and brimstone screamers, mugwumps, know-nothings, and proud of it
 
The Indy Baptist church I grew up in thought the Southern Baptists were – how should I put it? – loose and liberal. :yup:

No sleeveless shirts, girls and women in dresses or coulottes – I can still hear the odd way our pastor would say that with a five second long syllable on “cou” and a few extra vowels thrown in 😛

I didn’t make a good Baptist. I am terrible with numbers – like dyslexia – but with numbers. I could never quote scripture properly because I was always juxtaposing numbers, etc. Also, I just stink at processing numbers when they are heard only. So, I would forever go to the wrong verse or chapter in my bible.

It isn’t that I am totally an idiot, but I just didn’t make a good Baptist. However, I am great foil for the Holy Spirit. 😉

NOT SEE THE PASSION, very interesting. How can anyone of any religious belief, stop others from going to see such a Holy Picture. Wow! :eek: :eek:

Meee! 😃

I’ve been a member of an IFB church for fifteen years, although I differ with them on various theological points. I didn’t jump into the thread originally because it seemed that others already had us pretty well pegged.

IFBs tend to have narrower standards regarding separation from the world (dancing, smoking, knife-fighting, etc.) and they try to be militant in opposition to the religious trends of the last 125 years or so. The premillennial system views this decline as the end-times apostasy, moving toward the one-world church of the antichrist. (And y’all know who THAT is, don’tcha?)

And yeah, by whatever definition of “anticatholic” you use, you should expect an IFB mission to be anticatholic. Hopefully they are Christlike in spirit, but the proof of that pudding would have to be in the tasting.
