Anybody listen to Indie? I am not talking about the Killers or Jet, those nowadays pseudo-indie bands.

Like Death From Above 1979 or the Smiths or something of the like.

Bigggggg INDIE fan!

Used to rock out the typicals ALK3, NFG, Saves the Day, promise ring.

Now i am into more of a singer songwritter thing even “Alt” country; Ryan Adams, Ray Lamontagne, Amos Lee, Bright Eyes, Be good Tanyas, wilco, Drive by Truckers, Old Crow Medicine Show

Let me know what your’e into!

Rock and Roll will never die!

Well, I just got Death From Above 1979’s “You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine” and its rather addicting. The Shins have always been a favorite. Though they went major, Hot Hot Heat is pretty good.

The Mars Volta has its indie influences and I like them alot.

I just got into the Smiths and I want to get “The Queen is Dead”

Oh Joy Division is good too!

The aforementioned website link has some good stuff also.

Do The Jesus Lizard, Melvins, Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, Big Black, Shellac, Fantomas and Secret Chiefs 3 count?

'cuz yes.

Or if we’re just talkin singersongwriter types…I guess I’m into Will Oldham, Phil Elvrum, and Damien Jurado…but not much else.

so why are the killers and jet only “pseudo”??? is that cause they aren’t as trendy as the Smiths and don’t have a million dollar catch phrase used by all Vegetarians? hahahaha

I am in a Catholic “indie” band meaning independent. www.sevensorrows.com

I don’t think it counts as Indie if I’ve heard of them. And yet I’ve heard and even own albums by the Smiths and some of the others mentioned here. So I’m not as powerfully un-hip as I thought!

My favorite “Indie” bands that I’ve come across in recent years:

The Mooney Suzuki
The Apples in Stereo
Neutral Milk Hotel

from earlier eras - I liked the Smiths, which many have mentioned. Also, the Velvet Underground, Husker Du, and the Minutemen. But again, I have trouble thinking of them as “Indie” since they’re all pretty well-known.
