When attempting to gain a plenary indulgence for a soul in purgatory, does anyone struggle with who to apply it toward? I have come to the realization (Divine inspiration I’m sure!) that I should be taking better advantage of this generous gift. My originally intention was to apply the indulgence toward the soul that needs it the most (leaving the choice to God), but then I feel bad for excluding deceased family members and friends. I also wonder if I should apply it toward myself, although I feel really guilty about that! I would appeciate hearing about how others handle this.

I am also concerned about how I can be free from “all attachment to sin” (one of the conditions required for a plenary indulgence). Does anyone know exactly what that means?

My last question is this… does a plenary indulgence mean that if it is granted, the soul gaining the indulgence will be released from purgatory and go to Heaven?

God Bless,
Gary

I don’t know the answer to this, but I think it’s a good topic. As someone who is struggling with the whole issue of indulgences, I hope someone jumps in with a good response. 🙂

Yes, the soul who is granted the plenary indulgence is released and goes to heaven…and becomes one of your intercessors.👍

As for which soul, I have no idea. I ask Mother Mary to apply my (partial) indulgences as she sees fit, and hope for the best:(
