Hi everyone. Wondering if you can give me some advice on whether my children would be able to be baptised as infants, or if they have to undergo some sort of other instruction in order to be baptised? And if so, what?

When my children were born we attended a church that did not believe in infant baptism, and so only dedicated our children. Now I am starting to attend a catholic church with my new catholic husband and want to get the children baptised (which is also something that my kids have asked for).

My youngest is 6 years old - her birthday is not until January. My eldest is 7 and will be 8 in June.

Thanks very much.

I am not sure because of their age. but i believe because of their age they should undergo Catechism first, then baptism and first Communion and perhaps Confirmation all the same time. you might want to ask father.

Speak with your Pastor, the older is right at the Age of Reason, The 6 YO could be Baptized as an infant. However you state that “they asked to be Baptized” which indicates that they may already be at or past the “Age of Reason” and would attend a childrens form of RCIA. Then br Baptized, Confirmed and receive Holy Communion at an Easter Vigil.

Update: Spoke to our local parish priest about the kids baptism yesterday. As they receive religious instruction going to the catholic school associated with the church, he was confident that that was enough - and then they’ll go through the sacraments at the same time as their classmates in the coming years.

But because they’re older he’s organised to have the baptism at a separate time (i.e. not with other baby baptisms) so they didn’t feel self-conscious and is going to sit down with them a little closer to the time and explain the process so they know what’s happening.

He’s been really great about it. 🙂
