Here is the problem. Americans are aborting 9 out of 10 Down Syndrome babies. oneinten.weebly.com/posts/down-syndrome-abortion

We need to influence peoples minds before they are in a position that endangers an innocent child’s life.

I have never heard a sermon about this problem, or even touching on it. (If anyone else has could you please mention it here and note the best point of the sermon.)

It would be helpful to have more prolife sermons in general, but if the priests just center on this one subject it would encompase the entire problem.

I want to write a letter to our priests encouraging them to preach on this subject.

That would be my main objective, but also maybe suggesting other initiatives, like having a family with a DS child take up the gifts, serve at mass… Make them more obvious to the church going faithful.

Let them know about a prolifer from their own parish who is willing to help, like fielding angry proaborts, getting literature nfp interest etc.

Can any one suggest pointers for this letter?

Also, most of all, is this more likely to do more harm than good? Would a priest just be annoyed by this? How could I combat that?

Thanks!!!

Wow! I am so impressed that you are willing to take up the cause of Down’s syndrome abortion. I am an old mother-baby nurse who has taken care of her share of beautiful sweet Downs babies. I am also very discouraged. The people of the country I love and to some extent the people of the church that I love have turned their backs on the most helpless of human beings. I know you are asking for suggestions on how to go about your mission. I really have nothing to offer in that department other than to say that so much depends on your pastor. Some priests are just much more passionate about pro-life issues than others. Please keep us informed on your progress. God bless you-sincerely.

Thank you, Nan! It’s sad to think these beautiful DS babies would be targeted for destruction. We need to pray for miracles!

When God created us, he saw all he created “good”.
Being able to see God’s creation “good” is seeing through God’s eyes!

I thank God and thankyou sherimarie, & May God bless you.

This link tells the story of a Jewish family who had one biological child with Down and then adopted several more. Their biological son married an adopted daughter, both with Down. In the meantime, the mother started an organization to place Down children for adoption.

The parents were secular when they met but became devout Jews and moved to Israel. Their youngest, Avichai, had Down syndrome. They adopted a girl, Kirin, with Down so their son wouldn’t be alone. The children would hold hands as they nursed together :). Their story runs for about an hour. It’s a long but great story.

When Avichai and Kirin grew up, they married each other. It was controversial b/c the children were raised together, even though they have no biological relationship. After checking with the rabbi, they went ahead with the wedding. The story of the children’s marriage starts at about 44 minutes into the program.

It’s an unusual and great story. The program also tells the story of several other Down children the family adopted or helped place with adoptive families.
