Hi CAF Friends,

I had an insight about the Eucharist while talking with a friend about it today. It’s this: the accidents of an individual consuming Holy Communion are those of a person simply eating and drinking bread and wine, but the essence of the act of consumption of Holy Communion is something like the union of two souls.

I know the essence of the Eucharist is the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord, but the accidents remain those of bread and wine. After I thought about that I thought, “well, my accidents are eating Jesus’ accidents, but my essence is becoming one with His Essence.”

I seem to remember St. Paul saying that we won’t know what life after death will be like…the body is sown corruptible but reaped incorruptible? So maybe our souls do not exactly have teeth and stomachs but somehow we still come into union with Jesus.

So, my question to you all is: am I on the right track or not? Good insight or something to be discarded?

Thanks
Ben

You are correct its the spiritual union of your soul becoming apart of the body of christ. Jesus says in the gospel that those that drink my blood and eat my flesh become apart of me and I apart of them. Just for clarification too i personally had very powerful consolations when receiving the eucharist or spiritual ecstasy some like to put it. About two months ago it happened actually. It felt like my soul experiencing a spiritual orgasm and i was absolutely filled with the holy spirit for hours after, kinda like an after glow. I also felt a lack of affection for my dog afterwords kinda like i truly understood how insignificant my dog is. Hope this helps
