Inspired by parents during Mass

I know I should be trying to focus on Christ during the Mass, but I think it is natural to notice things, as humans are social creatures. I am a single young woman, so I have never had kids of my own to look after during Mass, and I am so inspired by so many of the parents I see with kids during Mass. Today, one family had 2 fussy toddlers, and each time the mother had to get out of her pew, she genuflected, often with a screaming child in her left arm. For the record, I wouldn’t criticize someone not genuflecting in this case, but I just thought it was so beautiful that she still wanted to be reverent to the Lord. Has anyone else be inspired by fellow parishioners during Mass?

A family with 4 children, all reaching over to add their contribution to the collection basket with big smiles on their faces. They all go up at communion for a blessing or communion, even when just the mom is there with them for mass. I don’t think any of them are more than 8 or 9 years old. When they get a bit fidgety the mom whispers to them calmly and they behave.

I love watching kids at Church. Even if they figdet it is like they do it mildly, like fidgeting in front of a King. This Friday this little girl said once loud towards me “Mommy!” And I looked up at there was a beautiful icon of Virgin Mary looking sideways in a loving way with Jesus in her arms. And felt her presence and felt better.
Now that wasn’t Mass really it was more like an anoitment service for Fridays during Lent. I got there because our boss let us leave work early.
The kid was probably screamin after her own mom who minutes later appeared and took her for a walk. But for me it was such a God given moment from Virgin Mary. That kid was also the 1 year old sweetest kid ever. If that counts…

Noticing the mom who is carrying her toddler, sign the cross on her daughter’s forehead. The toddler reaches over and traces a cross on her dad’s forehead.

There once was a little girl sitting in front of me who was somewhat fussy. But when the priest lifted the body she gasped and whispered to her mom “it’s Jesus”. My heart melted.

A great example of childlike faith. And a great example of how coming together for mass is a great gift. If you don’t go you never know what you’ll miss out on, or how you could’ve blessed someone. The community is strongest when we come together.

Not at Mass, but I’m inspired by a lady I see who comes to Adoration sometimes when I am there. This lady is elderly and very disabled. She is very bent over, uses a walker to get around, and it takes her about 15 minutes to just walk into the small chapel, sign herself in, and get herself into a seat. The fact that she has such difficulty in walking, yet makes the effort to come in the evening to spend an hour with the Lord, makes my problems seem small in comparison, since I can drive myself and walk around. There are a couple other disabled older people who also come to Adoration from time to time and I’m pretty much in awe of the devotion they all have.
