Our Priest, after 2 years being designated our ‘administrator’ will be installed as Pastor on the 13 of July.

I’m not in charge of planning the music for this mass, (and will likely be out of town that week.) The person who will plan is very into ‘Spirit and Song’ material.with G&P as backup.

I’m not sure what songs I’d pick for such a mass… what do ya’ll think???

Nothing in Spirit and Song is suitable for this solemn occasion, unless the setting was in a Protestant Church.

We had some horrid music for our bishop’s installation Mass, all of it from OCP. The songs were more about celebrating the community than about the Mass.

Here are some suggestions:

The Church’s One Foundation
Those Who Love and Those Who Labor
Shepherd of Souls
God, We Praise You (one of the English versions of the TeDeum)
or Holy God, We Praise Thy Name (the other English version of the TeDeum)

You could also use the Litany of the Saints as the entrance. There is a precedent in this because Pope Benedict XVI used this chant as his entrance processional when he was installed into his Petrine Ministry.

Do you have a cantor who can sing Latin? You might also use the Veni Creator Spiritus as an option because you are invoking the blessings of the Holy Spirit on your new pastor. This hymn was chanted as the cardinals made their way to the Sistene Chapel to begin the conclave.

I’ll look at the readings for that weekend.
