I’m not a big fan of Oprah but I did catch part of her show yesterday, which was about amazing animals.
We got to see the gorilla, Koko, who does sign language and has an IQ between 70 and 90.
How can there be no intellect in animals when there are animals as astounding as Koko and others?
 
I don’t believe there is any teaching of the Church that says animals don’t have any intellect.

Through the centuries people have tried various ways to explain what “made in the image of God” means. It’s possible that someone at some point attempted to define this in terms of IQ, but if so, that would be just one person’s opinion. . . .

Who claimed animals had no intellect?
 
wow…is Koko still alive! I remember her and her cat Ball from my days in grade school.

They alleged that Patterson encouraged the behavior, often interpreted Koko’s signs as requests for nipple display, and let them know that their job would be in danger if they “did not indulge Koko’s nipple fetish.”[13]

All claims of harassment have been permanently dropped as of November 21, 2005 after the foundation and the parties involved reached a settlement.[14]

Patterson claims that Koko uses the word “nipple” to refer to humans because it sounds like “people”.[15]

Animals have some intelligence but do not have intellect. These two are different things. They also have instinct, memory, and emotions.
