Among leftist “native activists” there has been a growing trend to use any stick with which to beat Western Civilization. One of the biggest targets is of course the Catholic Church. These activists are protesting the Vatican, encouraging the Holy See to rescind a papal bull known as “Inter Caetera” which was promulgated by Alexander VI in 1493. They protest that this implies the Holy See’s implicit involvement in the subjugation of native peoples.

What is your opinion of this? Frankly, I think this is a non-issue, since it’s hardly been mentioned outside certain circles. Moreover, I doubt whether or not a papal bull would have affected anything during those years.

I see it like any other dirty laundry to be done: pick it up off the floor and wash it clean, stop pretending it’s not there.
