I was wondering…
If we can know that the saints can intercede for us (the militant church on earch), as they are assuredly in heaven, can we ask the intercession of our ancestors, having confidence that they too are in heaven?

Certainly. It does no harm to ask for the intercession of our loved ones who have gone before us, if we have good reason to believe they are in heaven or at least purgatory.

We can certainly ask them to intercede for us, having hope that they may be in Heaven or Purgatory, and in case they are in Purgatory at this time we should also intercede for them.

I pray to my (and for my) parents’ souls and those of my ancestors.

Being one who has been working on my family genealogy, I have a lot of souls to pray for…and I am sure they are praying for me as well. (Especially those whom I never met).
