I believe in the intercession of Saints, but I have only recently “discovered” this wonderful tradition. How should I phrase the beginning of my prayer?

For example:
“I pray through/for the intercession of…”, or
“St. Monica, I pray through/for your intercession…”

The reason I ask for technicalities is that I have been taught to pray in Christ’s name…so I don’t want to “jump the chain [of command]” so-to-speak. Any help is greatly appreciated.

‘pray’ literally means ‘ask’. And it’s used in some secular situations too - someone going to the Supreme Court always ‘prays’ the Court for whatever legal remedy they want.

So there’s nothing wrong with any of your ways of phrasing it - doesn’t matter you simply pray to (ask) a saint FOR their intercession or pray to God or Christ THROUGH the intercession of a saint. No biggie.
