My daughter was at school today and a boy in her class jumped her about the fact that “Catholics pray to dead people”. She defended well…I am proud, but was unable to cite scripture that supports intercession of the Saints. I gave her these:

revelations 5:8 “the prayers of God’s people at the feet of the lamb”.

Matt 17:3…Jesus talks to Moses and ellijah (peter too)

Eph. 6:18…offer your supplications for all the saints

This situation makes me really sad…My daughter feels like she has to prove herself…she said “Mom…this guy is the leader of the Baptist movement at our school. I have to explain this right to be accepted.” 😦

Thanks
Teresa

Thank you Mr. Montie Claunch…I covered her up in scripture.

I especially loved the points about Angel’s intercession…which is all over the Bible…and then Jesus explaining that when we die we will be as the Angels.

This is probably a good thing…if you think about it. I had a productive discussion…and she and I both learned something…

Thank you again…pray for Katelyn tomorrow…that the Holy spirit might lead her…

God Bless
Teresa

Hebrews 11 & 12…Chapter 11 has a long list of those who have passed, & then ch. 12 starts out with calling them a “cloud of witnesses”. So they are not dead, they are alive & aware of what is happening here…

Expanding on Zooey’s citation of Hebrews 12, here is another verse that is helpful to me:
22] But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,
23] and to the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
Wow- the spirits of just men made perfect. They don’t sound too dead to me.

Thank you Zooey…I got that to her right before she jumped on the bus 👍

Say a prayer for Katelyn today. We live in a protestant environment…she insists on wearing her "proud to be Catholic " Tee-shirt…and witnessing. It is a good thing…but I worry…

I know what you mean I live in a protestant dense area myself. I just whish I had a “Proud to be Catholic” T-Shirt (Do you know where I could get one), It would make witnessing a whole lot easier for me.

And Don’t worry I will pray for ya’ll two.

“Hearing nuns’ confessions is like being stoned to death with popcorn.”
Fulton Sheen. :rotfl: nice. I will have to remeber that.

Montie…You posted that just at the same time I was answering your thread in the spirituality forum…We…my friend are on the same page…I suggested that you get one!

Look around on the internet…I bet if you type in Catholic Tee-shirts…you’ll find it. My daughter just got back from NYCY (catholic youth conference in Atlanta this year)…and is filled with the Spirit now! I suggest all parents send their Children…I had been asking her to go to a Catholic College…she just said we’ll see…she comes back from one conference and now wants to go to one 😃
