Becoming a counseling psychologist is one my future career choices because I love the idea of helping others overcome/cope with their difficulties. Though, I think it would be more rewarding if I were to implement my faith in the practice. I’m trying to be a better christian and I could help others do the same. Does anyone know the requirements to be a catholic therapist? Do you have to attend a religious institution?

I don’t know the answer to your question but just want to say I’m really glad you’re considering it. The world needs more Catholic therapists.

Divine Mercy University in Arlington VA offers degrees in psychology, counseling, and therapy. It is strongly Catholic. I think it offers Masters and doctorate degrees. I know some people that are things king of going there and some priests are also sent there to study psychology. But if you don’t live around here it may not be convenient. There may be online classes that bring in the Faith. Also just studying the Faith and understanding the Church’s view on human life and dignity, suffering etc. would probably be helpful

Wow. This looks promising. I will keep this in mind, thank you.

What a great idea!

Maybe this book is interesting (in case you don’t already have this) Thomistic Psychology: A Philosophic Analysis of the Nature of Man. By Robert Brennan

Oh and Fulton Sheen’s talks on psycho analysis and psycholog are absolutely fantastic!

Good luck on your journey and God Bless
