interesting book

I recently read a book by a Father Faber called “The Creator and the Creature”. It was written over 100 years ago but had some very interesing observations. I wonder if anyone has read it or has any comments. I would love to have a discussion group about this, but I don"t know how to do that. Thanks

I have not read that book but, it sure sound like a great book. I’m going to buy it. I am interested in what he has to say about how there are people who believe in the existence of God but deny his sovereignty in practice. This, indeed, is true in our modern era. I have come upon a lot of people who believe in the existence of God but think that they can put him in a box. Here is a nice review from Amazon:
“Fr. Faber’s key book, which stands at the “source and origin” of all his others, for it contains the fundamental insight which leads to a proper understanding about all other aspects of our religion. Says men in the modern era accept God’s existence, but deny His sovereignty in practice, and he explores the ramifications of this. Though composed in mid-19th century, this book is absolutely on target today, for man’s tendency to arrogate to himself the prerogatives of God - strong in Fr. Faber’s time - is epidemic today and cannot but influence Catholics. This book is a powerful awakener!”

Hello Abba, I guess we know that society today wants to place God in “a place” but not have to deal with what he wants of us. It would disrupt their way of life I guess.
Father Faber, although written some time ago, deals with the basics of our faith and what it means to have a Creator (which we naturally have) and as the Creator’s creature (us) how we should deal with him.
The only one I found that has read this book is a Priest friend and he has yet to discuss it with me. (Although he mentioned that he used some material from it in one of his homilies.
It is the first book I’ve read which just simply “says it like it is.”
I would love to hear from you after you have had a chance to read it.
