Interesting Mass Sunday

We had a controversy over that line in my community chorus one year. Someone objected to singing “let us die to make men free,” and suggested that we change it to “live.” The wars had just started and were fresh in our minds. We eventually decided to use the original line, which left me quite satisfied.

I’m very glad to go to the parish I go to. We might play guitar music, but when it comes down to it, it’s a very orthodox Mass. The priest “paints inside the lines” in the liturgy (as Fr. Mitch Pacwa puts it). It is also a very live parish with active members in many ministries. I find that it encourages me.

The only problem I had was once when the priest was reading the Annunciation as the Gospel (it was that Sunday’s reading) but right before he read Mary’s “Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word” he took out a book of meditations and read St. Bernard’s meditation on the annunciation (found here: crossroadsinitiative.com/library_article/348/Annunciation_and_Mary_s_Fiat__St_Bernard.html ). It sounded really beautiful, but I don’t know the rules about that. Other than this one incident, this parish is the most active and orthodox parishes I’ve seen.

However, sometimes the OF is abused (coming from a person who adores the OF).
