Hello all,

Does anyone know where I might find a good reliable interpretation of the Book of Revelation such as a Church approved private revelation?

God bless,
Noel.

In more than 30 years of Bible study, I have never seen a reliable interp of the last book of the Bible.

I don’t know if I’d call it an “interpretation” per se, but the Navarre Bible series has a volume devoted to Revelation that I found very helpful reading. All the biblical books in the series contain the English translation (RSV) and Latin New Vulgate running in parallel. Additionally, the text contains tons of commentaries from the fathers of the church, council documents, writings of the saints, etc. Maybe it won’t answer every question you have, but it could certainly give you a really good start.

Rather than rely on apparations which, even if approved by the Church, are not part of the deposit of Faith and revealed truth, I would invest in a good, orthodox Bible commentary such as* The Navarre Bible Commentary on the Book of Revelation*.

Another helpful book which extensively treats Revelation is David Curie’s “Rapture.” You may also want to look at Scott Hahn’s “The Lamb’s Supper” which shows the relation between Revelation and the Mass.

If you want to get a comprehensive treatment, I’d highly recommend another resource by Scott Hahn, his multi-tape series about the Book of Revelation, “The End,” available from St. Joseph’s Communications at www.saintjoe.com. There is also a study guide to go with it available.

In the meantime, I’d start here:

In addition to his book, “The Lamb’s Supper”, Scott Hahn also did a tape set called “The End”.

They are actually two different ways of looking at Revelation. The End could be compared to the literal sense of interpretation, and The Lamb’s Supper could be called the spiritual sense.

Olson is a convert to Catholicism and has studied the topic from all angles. A very good apologist.
Hahn’s Lamb’s Supper book is also excellent although it’s more specifically looking at Revelation and the Mass.

I have no idea whether or not the Church approves of this one, but The People of God in the Apocalypse is an excellent work on the Revelation as it was likely to have been understood in the C1st. The author is a translation consultant for the Bible Society, and a friend: he knows his stuff.

I read and enjoyed Dr. Scott Hahn’s book “The Lamb’s Supper: The Mass on Heaven and Earth”:

If you are more interested in eschatology (the study of last things) you might want to read this book:
