Intinction in the Latin Rite

If intinction is practiced in a Latin Rite church, then do the people who receive Holy Communion HAVE to receive both Species of the Eucharist?

If they don’t have to receive both Species, then how do they indicate that they wish to only receive one Species?

I am asking because I have never personally been at a Latin Rite Mass with intinction, and I want to know how to ask for the Sacred Host only.

I am of course aware that in the Easten Rites, intinction is always(?) practiced, and I certainly have no problem with that.(I have never actually been to an Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy.)

I think it would be as we do in the Eastern Churches.

If for some reason one can not recieve both species then you would talk to the priest before the liturgy and let him know so arrangements can be made.

In the Byzantine Churches, very young infants only recieve the Precious Blood until they can take solid food.

I meant that if a Latin Rite Catholic does not wish to receive both Elements as a matter of personal choice(NOT allergy), is there a way for the person to indicate at the time of Communion that they only wish to receive the Sacred Host?

It is dependent upon the individual parish. In parishes which practice this form of communion, the pastor designates how the communicant communicates which method they wish to recieve.

So just ask the pastor before hand, or watch what others are doing.

I have a real problem with this personal choice stuff.

What’s wrong with putting that aside and just doing the same as the other folks? Its the same sacrament , its the same church , these little situations where everyone shows their individuality, this do-your-own-thingism just seem so out of place.

If we are all one, let’s show we’re all one.

I’m sure that’s true, but its best to recieve according to the customs of the parish or oratory which you are at, whatever that might mean.

You’re showing unity, catholicity with the folks of that parish by doing things the same way.

Years ago, our previous pastor offered intiction because it wasn’t practical to offer the Precious Blood separately. Occasionally people would quietly gesture that they wanted to receive a “dry” host, and he accommodated them.

It’s possible that one of the recipients is a recovering alcoholic, and they wouldn’t want to receive even a few drops of something that has all of the physical characteristics of wine.

In a neighboring parish the priest and usually one, never more than three EMHCs are used to administer Holy Communion via intinction. He prefers it to having the hord of EMHCs used in some parishes and is decreases the hubbub of criss cross of lines, etc.

To recieve both stick out your tongue. To recieve only the host, hold out you hands.
