I’m in a situation where I plan on investing in the stock marker soon. I’ve never read any church guide lines about investing.

Matt,

Are you interested in the 1) Catholic ethics of investing or in 2) investments for Catholics or both? You can get a few links by googling “catholic investing”. I hope other will point us to resources they have found helpful.

I would love some (name removed by moderator)ut from other Catholic investors as well. I had asked my financial adviser some time ago to research this for me and she never got back to me.

If I’m putting my money into a fund, I want to make sure it’s not full of pharmaceutical companies researching new ways to abort children or any other morally unacceptable practice.

Liza,

You can invest in funds like Ave Maria family of funds, Aquinas Growth Fund, Catholic Equity, etc. Ave Maria is the biggest and growing. Their performance beats the overall markets. Past performance is no guarantee for future performance. However, their funds invest in solid companies.

Best of good buy,
M1

Spire - mentioned in the opening post - is difficult to track. Its website is not at all forthcoming as to who is behind it, etc., and there’s virtually no mention of it anywhere on the web exc on its own site and in its own press releases.

They have begun showing up as a “Financial Services Sponsor” on the websites of a variety of Catholic parishes - the majority of which seem to be concentrated in the Southeast (KY and Carolinas, although I found them on a parish in the UK and a Newman Center site at North Dakota State University). The founder is a guy named Paul Hamacher - who may be a gentleman by the name who is the COO of Zak Designs (an international children’s dinnerware and trendy tableware distributor) and an adjunct professor at Gonzaga U. If not, and presuming that he’s not a filmographer by the name, he too is virtually invisible on the web.

I find the operation’s apparent close-mouthedness a bit bothersome.

Many years,

Neil

I have been investing using SpireStocks.com since April 2007. In that time, my return as been 19.5% vs. 10.3% for the Dow, 2.6% for the NASDAQ and 8.3% for the S&P500. The web-site updates your return vs. these indices every day. The returns are generated by buying good stocks and then adding to your position as the natural fluctuations in the market present additional buying opportunites. A real life example from my portfolio: I purchased MSTR in April @ $105/sh. SpiresStocks triggered additional buys in May @ $93/sh and July @ $86/sh. In November, SpireStocks triggered a sell on all the shares @ $126/sh. I made an averge of $31/sh! Since November, I have repurchased MSTR 2 more times, starting the cycle over.

This system has been great for me becuase I do not have alot of time to do research. I have been very pleased with its functionality, the moral responsibility aspect and the results.

One other note: I have had excellent response from SpireStocks with any e:mail questions I have had.

I signed up for the 30-day trial subscription to the SpireStocks.com guidance service just over two weeks ago after contacting the CEO, Paul Hamacher via the email form on the web site. I too have had excellent response from Mr. Hamacher to all my questions.

His proprietary system is unlike any other I have found so far. First, it uses ethical stocks (explained on the web site). Secondly, it efficiently automates “buy low, sell high” as Chuck’s experience exemplified so well. In just a little over two weeks, I have emerged from that ~4% market correction just a bit ahead while three major indices are still below for that 2-week period:

Dow Jones: - 2.36%
Nasdaq: -2.76%
S & P 500: -1.48%

They are using morally responsible investments which I always endeavor to use as a Catholic.

How is everyone doing and feeling after the 5% corrrection and then the uptrend this past week?
