A friend’s daughter has gone through the procedure of having fertilized eggs implanted in her uterus. She has managed to make it 3 months with one remaining egg from the 4 that were implanted. Her mother, a good friend but not a Catholic, has asked me to pray for her daughter. The legnths her daughter has gone through to become pregnant are beyond reason, as far as I am concerned. I have prayed for her and now that she is looking like she will carry this child I pray even more. Is it wrong for me to do this because of the way she has become pregnant? While I have issues with how she has done this, a baby is a bady is a baby, right?

I don’t think it’s wrong you’re praying. Regardless of how the child was conceived, it’s still a soul. Yes, the IVF was wrong, but the baby is not at fault.

I have a cousin born this way, he’s 8 now, and both his parents are Catholic, and were Catholic at the time of IVF, but the kid didn’t ask to be born this way. He was conceived, and at conception, a new life was formed. God gave us life, so think of the baby as a normal human being. Do pray for that baby.

Yes, the baby has all the dignity of any other baby. So, pray for the mom and the baby’s safety and health.

Pray also that the mom will find Wisdom and not do such a thing again.
