Irish bishops order change in pregnancy-counseling policy

Dublin, Jun. 16 (CWNews.com) - The Catholic bishops of Ireland have instructed their pregnancy-counseling service, CURA, to stop distributing a leaflet that list agencies which provide abortion referrals.

At the conclusion of their 3-day meeting in Maynooth, the Irish bishops’ conference released a statement disclosing that they had directed CURA to stop giving pregnant women the “Positive Options” leaflet provided by the Crisis Pregnancy Agency. That leaflet lists 9 agencies that provide help for pregnant women; the bishops’ statement noted that 7 of those agencies “will give contact details for abortion clinics, if requested in a pregnancy-counseling session.” The leaflet “would need to be changed if it is to be acceptable,” the bishops concluded.

The bishops’ scrutiny of CURA policies was the result of complaints from some Irish pro-life activists. . . .

Their reward for so doing was that they were dismissed!By going public on the policy that was being pursued the were guily of a “breach of confidentiality.”. Meanwhile the bishop who heads CURA continues in office. All very just don’t you think?”

Typical. Who dismissed them? Is there going to be a wrongful dismissal suit? If not, why not?
