Irony at mass today

So we had a baptism at mass today. So the musical theme they played a few times was “River of Glory.”

Now that’s all well and good. Except when we took up a second collection for the victims of Katrina. Meanwhile, the choir is singing, “Flood of God’s riches, poored on the earth…”

What’s your interpretation of this? Leave it on the poll above!

I think it was either a lack of forsight by the Music Director or the person just did not want to change what was already rehearsed.

I believe God is strongly present in all of His creation, including disasters.

Surely baptisms combined with the second collection was mere coincidence.

Our priest used his homily today to chide our congregation to love each other first IN ORDER THAT THEY CAN love the victims of the hurricane! “Charity begins at home,” he said. And he said this AFTER he asked the homeless victims present at Mass today to stand up and identify themselves. Can you imagine how they must have felt? :o

He obviously wanted to scold the parish for its ongoing divisiveness, but when he combined it with the call for charity it became a poorly nuanced homily. 😦
 
I think it’s just random chance and you’re reading into it…but at our Mass today we did have a line in one of the songs that likened God’s power to a “hurricane”, and I thought it was just a little misplaced.
 
God punishing the music director for picking terrible music by removing his foresight. 😃
 
I think when something big and disastrous happens, like the tragedy caused by the hurricane (or 9/11) (or just now someone in my house broke a plate!) we are psychologically more attuned to keep thinking of it when familiar words pop up. May be a lack of forsight, but nothing more.
