Hello,

I told a joke about how flippant Pilate was with Christ when condemning him, in the context of something I heard on TV with some family.

I immediately regretted it when a family member asked If I was allowed to say it (I am a convert from Anglicanism). I have said Psalm 50 for it and I am trying to get a confession booked (a bit difficult with a nationwide quarantine).

My question is whether or not that would constitute a grave matter. My gut feeling is that it is, but I am not sure as I didn’t directly mock God, and I don’t think that was my intent (I kinda freaked out a bit when I realised what I had said).

Thanks

I don’t know what you said, and I don’t want to know.
Humor is interesting because something can strike people as funny, but for different reasons and motivations.

Maybe this can shed some light.

I get myself into trouble with irreverent jokes now and again. My sense that if it isn’t genuinely mean-sprited, it’s venial. I look up, say ‘sorry’ and try not to tell that joke again.
