. The “clappy” stuff, the vernacular, the modern hymns, for some reason they don’t take me out of the world enough. The OF oftentimes seems so focused on appealing to the world.
Yes. That’s my take on it also. The clown Masses, the rock Masses, the Peter, Paul and Mary Masses, the charismatic roll on the floor and scream Masses, the liturgical dancing and prancing about Masses, the Halloween Masses, etc., these just don;t do it for me spiritually. True, they attract some people and it may be good in a way that they do. Maybe it is not irreverent after all to have Eucharistic servers dressed up in Satanic outfits for Halloween. Maybe it is OK to have clowns and create the impression that religion is a joke. But people at the SSPX don’t like this approach and many of them seem to be deeply spiritual individuals.

You are led up there to speak in tongues. Why? So that you grow in faith? No, so you get something. It’s not a coincidence they are preaching prosperity gospel in that Church. The whole religion is dependent on what you get, never what you give.

You can disprove the “gift” of tongues in 5 minutes. How? Next time you are in a charismatic service, take into account all the factors that go into the outbursts of tongues:

.
I had to come to the same conclusions after trying a charismatic prayer group over several months. The person who asked me to try it told me herself that there was way too much emphasis on trying to speak in tongues. The Church also recommends there be an interpreter present when one does speak in tongues (never saw one during that time).

The stringent ritual, the historical content, the beauty, the mystery, they nourish me in my heart. I don’t know if I could face the constant bombardment without it. The “clappy” stuff, the vernacular, the modern hymns, for some reason they don’t take me out of the world enough. The OF oftentimes seems so focused on appealing to the world. I don’t understand why. The world hates all of us. If powerful people had the option, they’d wipe out the Catholic faith. It’s no different than any other era.
I heard a priest (maybe 20 years ago) come to preach a mission in our parish. He spoke of the interior design of the church. He repeated several times that all these things were intended to “shut the world out” while we’re inside; the "world" in the sense that Bishop Fulton Sheen said - “…not the world which is the theatre for the Act of the Redemption, but the spirit of the world.”

It’s true: We are meant to be in this world but** not of **this world and a lot of the things that are being paraded in front of us (yes during Mass too) when we’re in the church make it difficult to differentiate from the outside…not the way it’s meant to be.

(For the record: When I participated in the other forums mentioned in post # 294 of this thread , although I may not have used the word “retard”, I did use other terms which were very poor choices of another nature and that were bad enough that they can’t be repeated in this forum…it’s the main reason I left those forums.)

:o

Society would have us believe that the above is simply a common epithet now…well it isn’t - it’s a slur.

…a good time for a reality check in this thread entitled Irreverent Mass. In case any of us were unsure, the previous post just gave us the definition of*** irreverent.***
I think this statement is a little unfair. We are talking about an irreverent Mass. While it was a poor choice of words, I was never under the impression that I had to be reverent on this forum. I mean, no one is about to post the Canon, are they?

Can we delete my original post and all the others with the word in them?

You’re right I may have overreacted because of my sensitivity to verbal abuses I witness concerning the emotionally ill.

I apologize PrayforMallory . I didn’t mean to bring the word up again in my most previous post … Actually I was trying to point out that I’m personally far from perfect and have used words far worse in my life.

One would need to ask a moderator if the posts could be edited. Either way, don’t let it outweigh all the good insights and opinions you’re posting…besides it appears JReducation already considers it forgiven, and a bygone. 🙂

No need to apologize to me, because I was in the wrong without a doubt.

I just think sometimes that because our forum is Catholic, that we sometimes take it more seriously than an internet forum should be taken.

I played a video game right before I made that quote. I really wasn’t in a reverent frame of mind.

Ave Maria!

If you knew PRIOR to attending the irreverant Mass that it was abusive and in clear violation of the *General Instruction of the Roman Missal * and/or canon law, and you attended because you wanted to see a “new approach” to the liturgy then, yes there might be some sin involved.
