The IRS will offset refunds to collect back child support payments. This is infinitely more humane and less costly than DEBTOR’S PRISON. The states will jail fathers and mothers who are behind on their child support. Jobs are lost en masse. Companies like FedEx now automatically fire employees who are taken into custody at work and jailed for back child support payments. All this because wage garnishing isn’t as lucrative as jail biz.

So even if records were incorrectly kept and the victim jailed unjustly, it is rare for a company to hold a job for the long incarcerations county jails enforce because of slow hearing scheduling, not crowded courts. This system is extremely lucrative for county jails who can receive a state and federal stipend per prisoner; and extremely lucrative for those service industries who provide support for prisons, one of the biggest big businesses in America. That means toilet paper and soap giants love to have more jail and prison contracts, and cultivate relations with jail and prison executives who dole out big contracts. And most Americans cheer when they hear of someone going to jail for back child support. The monies collected generally are looted by the county with a small amount passing through to the children! May God bring justice to this system now.
