Years ago my mother (grandma) told me she baptized my child at her home without my consent, at the time I didn’t care because I was not a practicing christian.

My mother (grandma) is a non-practicing cafeteria catholic, who has been to catholic church maybe 5 times in the past 20 years. So I guess she would be in mortal sin since she doesn’t attend Mass on Sunday. Grandma also left the catholic church when I was 10 and raised me protestant. Thanks to EWTN I am considering going back to the catholic faith.

Can a person who is in mortal sin perform a valid and or licit baptism?

There was a Canon lawyer on the Dr Ray radio show Feb 10 2016, and he said anyone can do a baptism as long as they use trinity formula. I am disturbed that children can be baptized without parental knowledge or consent.

The Catholic Church will not baptize a child without parental permission, but yet it is permissible for anyone to nilly willy perform baptisms? What is all this talk about licit baptisms and valid baptisms, what is the difference?

If it is valid or licit, will my child ever be able to get a plenary indulgence on the anniversary of her baptism? The date of baptism is unknown.
