Is a civil marriage valid?

Is a Civil marriage recognised by our God in the same way as a church marriage where the bride and groom take Holy vows? and if not is would ether partner who takes another be committing adultery in a civil marriage?
 
Hi,

A Catholic who marries in a civil court instead of a Catholic Church does not have a valid marriage according to the Catholic Church. Each time the couple has relations they will be committing a mortal sin.
