Is a legitimate child better than a illegitimate child in the eyes of God?

If parents of a illegitimate child get married after the birth of the child, does that automatically make the child legitimate or is there an additional process to legitimize the child?

Also, what does it mean for a child (as a catholic) to be illegitimate? In other words what makes a legitimate child better than a illegitimate child in the eyes of God?
